Welcome to the Dark Zone.
My name is Diane Panaccio and I am a writer. My primary interest is science fiction, however I have a fondness for many different genres ranging from horror to romance fiction. Currently I have been concentrating on bringing back an old show from the early 90's named LEXX that didn't get much airplay in the states, but was a huge hit in Europe. (Bigger than Star Trek, if you can believe it) I can see great potential in the series...particularly with reference to the Brunnen G, an extinct race of romantic warriors. Kai, Last of the Brunnen G, one of the main characters, is an undead former assassin that hailed from this once proud and noble race. Millennia ago, his people managed to defeat the Insect race in the great insect wars, and all but one were eventually destroyed. This last surviving insect went on to spawn a vendetta so great against humanity that it even went so far as to take on human form and call itself His Divine Shadow. Kai's tale is a tragic one of how his race was eventually destroyed by His Divine Shadow - an insect inhabiting the body of a human - and he himself was murdered and transformed into an undead killing machine for 2008 years until his memory was restored to him. Subsisting on protoblood (insect blood with strange regenerative properties), Kai is no longer human and devoid of emotions, but he is capable of feeling intellectual pain. He chooses to help his new human friends, former security guard, Stanley Tweedle and love slave, Xev Bellringer to destroy His Divine Shadow once and for all before the Insect Essence can rid the universe of all humanity. It is a epic tale of genocide and power struggles, where good and evil are not always clearly defined.
As for myself, I have written several screenplays and all manner of short stories to delve deeper into the mythology surrounding these compelling characters, and in particular, that of the Brunnen G. As I do not yet have the rights, my stories are, of course, unauthorized. However, NO complete mythology of LEXX or the Brunnen G exists even in official form to date. Paul Donovan, the original creator of LEXX spoke once of creating a mythology, but it never came to pass, and the rights were eventually bought up by Alliance Atlantis where they now remain in dormancy. It is my intention to change all of that. So, if you also have an abiding love or interest in LEXX, or even if you are new to the series (it is very rare and difficult to find), please feel free to peruse my extensive blog entries in the form of short stories and informational essays and hopefully you will come to see why I love this mythology as much as I do. It is one of the few science fiction shows to come along that actually dared to question the notion of good and evil, right and wrong...as these are inherently subjective terms. Star Trek was very clear cut..as was Star Wars. But are we not all capable of doing things that others might consider good or evil from a different perspective?
Were the insects evil for wanting to destroy humanity after they, themselves were nearly wiped out by it?
Were the Brunnen G good for defending their world against an insect essence with a vendetta against all humankind and the atrocities they suffered at their hands?
Stanley Tweedle, Xev(also known as Zev), and Kai were considered anti-heroes because they were not seeking to save the universe from His Divine Shadow. They were simply flawed human beings (Kai being undead and decarbonized)that were trying to find their place in the universe and who were, by a series of strange circumstances, caught in the middle of this struggle and thrust to the forefront.

Stanley Tweedle: Former Ostral B heretic, Security Guard Class 4 in the service of His Divine Shadow until he was sentenced to death for a minor crime and went on the run as a fugitive. Stanley is shallow and socially inept. His only interest is in meeting women and being seen as a powerful and respectable man in the eyes of his peers. However, he is generally cowardly and self-motivated. He also happens to be captain of the most powerful weapon in the universe: a giant bio-engineered insect ship capable of destroying entire planets.

Xev/Zev: Zev Bellringer was raised in a "box" on B3K, also known as "The Wife Bank." Having never actually interacted with other human beings (she was raised by holograms that were very critical of her since she was extremely overweight and unattractive), Zev was very naive. Eventually Zev was contracted into an arranged marriage, but her husband immediately rejected her and out of humiliation, she punched him. According to the codes, Zev was convicted of the crime of humiliating her husband at the temple and sent to the cluster for sentencing. As punishment, she was to be turned into a love slave. However, something went wrong with the process when a giant cluster lizard entered her transformation chamber and her DNA got mixed up with the lizard. She was turned into a really beautiful woman, but she has a bit of cluster lizard in her as well and sometimes she can do strange things and is very aggressive. She managed to escape the brain washing however, which would have made her fall in love with the first person she sees. Zev (and later Xev after she dies and is reborn again with a new body) is very innocent and naive and just wants to fall in love, find a home and have a normal life someday. However, she is not attracted to Stanley Tweedle, and she loves the very handsome Kai but he is dead and incapable of loving her back. It would seem she is doomed to always be unsatisfied.

Kai: An undead warrior and former Divine Assassin. Kai is extremely handsome and the very picture of what we would consider a hero, however, he was murdered by His Divine Shadow and his body was decarbonized. Then, for the next 2,008 years he was an assassin for His Divine Shadow until he got his memories back from the brain of one of His Shadow's predecessors and chose to help Stan and Xev escape and find a home. Kai must continually subsist on protoblood in order to function, but it is in short supply and eventually he will run out and stay dead forever. The limited protoblood that he does have must be preserved, so Kai must remain in a cryochamber whenever his services are not required.

790: There is also a robot drone head (the rest of the body was eaten by a cluster lizard) that Zev placed in her love slave transformation chamber after she escaped it. The 790 unit recieved the love slave brainwashing and it immediately fell in love with the first person it laid eyes on: Zev. He is the rather bizarre 4th member of this unlikely crew of misfits and claims to have the tiny fragment of a human brain buried deep within all the circuitry wires in his head. He can very very sarcastic and will sometimes go to great lengths to achieve his goal of being alone with the object of his affection: even if it is to the detriment of the rest of the crew.

The LEXX: This is a living, functioning bioengineered giant insect ship in the form of a dragonfly. The LEXX is capable of interacting with it's captain: Stanley Tweedle, but is otherwise very dim witted and simple. It loves to blow up planets and eat the organic remains and does not care whether there is something alive on the planet or not. It follows Stanley's commands, but has been known on occasion to act on it's own behalf and blow something up without his consent. The LEXX was originally grown by His Divine Shadow in an effort to destroy all of humanity, but Stanley, Zev and Kai managed to steal it from him at the last minute. Now they wander the universe, sometimes aimlessly and not always with the best of motives. Clearly the LEXX can be utilized for noble causes, however more often than not, Stanley uses it to meet girls, Zev uses it to meet guys, and Kai simply goes along for the ride, without any motivation whatsoever. In spite of all this, they do sometimes wind up accomplishing great and noble feats amazingly. Yet the morality of their actions is genuinely open for interpretation to the viewer. Lexx is about as complex psychologically and sociologically as any sci fi gets without taking itself too seriously. It is part satire, part spoof, with an underlying seriousness throughout. But one thing LEXX could never be..is dull.

And so the journey continues...
